Easy DIY Pom Pom Shoes
Easy DIY pom pom shoes. ~sigh~ Every year brings a new array of fashion trends that I frankly can’t keep up with. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to keep up with the latest and greatest trends — it just means that it doesn’t make sense budget-wise. It’s the polar opposite of budget-wise.Once in awhile something will catch my eye and I begin to wonder if Handsome Dude wouldn’t mind not eating for a month. Shoes or food? Food or shoes? One of this year’s trends showed up in my @sweetcreekcloset instagram feed [often and consistently]. I was smitten. Absolutely smitten. Here’s what I fell in love with. And here. I found a pair for $825 that were eventually on sale for $225 which didn’t help me at all because $225.
They are adorable.
I figured out a few things in the process of putting these diy pom pom shoes together that you might appreciate.
First
Google your favorite store and navigate your way to clearance. I found my treasures on clearance at Target, for under $24. I actually purchased them before the idea to diy pom pom shoes even popped into my head.
You can add a pom pom or two to just about any shoe: flip flops, sandals, heels, boots, flats, slip-ons, lace-ups and all of that jazz.
Second
You don’t actually have to use pom poms. [Eyes wide open with surprise and anticipation, right?] I used 10 mm felted balls from yarnplace.com. My search took me to Amazon, but I found that it would save me $4.00 to buy directly from the shoppe. Yes please to that.
Third
Not all glues are going to work well. Those little felted balls/pom poms needed to stay securely on the shoe. I didn’t want to worry about the darlings once they were attached. I conducted a little experiment which worked out rather well. More on that in just a minute.
Okay. Here’s what you’ll need.
[The scissors are there because of just in case.]
Facebook Live is about the most delightful thing on the planet besides small children and puppies. I used it to video the quick process of making the diy pom pom shoes. Yay for that. Boo for the part where I can’t figure out how to download a video longer than ten minutes to YouTube.
This priceless documentary [it’s informative at the very least] is in three parts.
Part 1 details the glue experiment. I didn’t use all the glues in the world, just the ones around the house. Except for the Gorilla Glue. That stuff can make such a mess and I say no to that kind of thing in general.
Part 2 shows the advantage of using the double stick tape as well as how to avoid making errors. It was the first attempt at adding poms and there weren’t any glitches. That’s a huge win in my book. Huge.
And there they are.
If it’s all appropriate to swoon over your own project then ~swoon~.
If it’s not appropriate, too late.
I’m a smidge bit excited to start the next pom pom project.
Are you a pom pom enthusiast or a pom pom scrooge?
Either way, I’d love to hear what you have to say about these shoes.
Have the best kind of day.
