Everyone makes mistakes
And then there was the time that Utah Valley University made the rather unfortunate mistake of sending out scholarships to 304 high school seniors who weren’t qualified for them.
Ah, the allure of a public blunder.
[They become a bit of a distraction, don’t they? It’s altogether quite a bit more comfortable to focus on someone else’s (anyone else’s) blunder than our own, hm?]
For the majority of us mistake-makers, figuring out how to smooth out the trouble we’ve managed to stir up can be a bit of a trick–even without the generally unforgiving scrutiny of the public.
It must be particularly difficult to right a wrong when everyone is looking.
[We’re sometimes not the most forgiving of creatures.]
The university sent letters to the unintended recipients explaining the “unfortunate technical glitch.”
I can’t imagine the letters were Howlers. [In fact, I’m certain they weren’t.]
But–I did have some fun imagining that they were Howlers–and that this is the message they contained.
[If you are, in fact, one of the unfortunate souls who received the scholarship announcement in the first place, it might be in my your best interest not to read past this point in the post until some future moment when this experience will be a good deal more fun to talk about than it has been to live through.]
I wonder if it wouldn’t be an excellent idea to memorize this sweet little song sung by the big yellow bird of Sesame Street.
Haven’t we all stepped on a “J” at some point?
“Everyone makes mistakes, yes they do.”
I’ll be more kind.
How about you?
Speaking of mistakes–or at least in trying to make as few as possible–I’m trying to make the switch to WordPress. Let’s just see how that goes.
~sigh~
