Hair Pins and Headbands
Hair Pins and Headbands
for the love of hair
[and hair accessories]
Twelve months ago there were basically two ways I styled my hair.
1–Curly.
That’s naturally curly hair — naturally curly hair that’s also fine.
Which means I use awesome products to smooth the frizzies and add some body and bounce.
However.
[and I say this knowing that there are those of you reading this that will be giving me a sparkly high-five of camaraderie and enthusiasm]
Some days it look like this.
Especially if there’s a smidge bit of humidity in the air.
Which is cute — like, say — for a chicken, maybe, or a dog and quite possibly a cat — but not for moi.
Hairstyle #2 — Straightened.
Still using fabulous hair products, of course, that add body, bounce and shine.
With both hairstyles it didn’t occur to me that I could ever, EVER [I really mean it, obviously] “pull off” a headband, hair pins or any kind of hair accessory.
[Except for maybe a paper bag on those one days of “are you kidding me?”]
Within the safety of home, I began to wonder if wearing my hair up would work — and by “work” I mean be awesome.
So. I snapped a photo of such a thing — posted it on Instagram and asked for some input.
[Which was still safe enough for me knowing that there would only be a handful of people who even paid attention before tapping on the pic and ‘hearting’ it.]
~grin~
Nothin’ but positive.
I even liked it.
BUT — and it’s a big but — it didn’t make it out of the house. My confidence was waxing feeble.
[Y’all have your 5 minutes do’s that look awesome and I know it.]
And then we took a trip to China.
We knew it would be humid there, but had been told that the temperatures would be very similar [within degrees] to Cache Valley. That’s what we packed for. It isn’t what ended up happening, but that’s what we packed for. We were simultaneously melting. Melting, my friends. Buttah on sidewalk melting. Temperatures were 10-20 degrees higher and wow does that make a difference. Every scarf that had been packed to pop a color in a cardigan was now enlisted as a hair accessory.
The rest is history.
I wear bows,
lace headbands with a flower pin,
scarves and a braid,
scarves and a topknot,
and more scarves.
I love them.
“How do you tie the bow? I love that lace. What did you do get that to be so poofy?”
Those are the questions people ask the most.
That’s the video that hopefully answers many of the questions.
If you still have questions, I am happy to answer. Happy to.
Which is a great segue to this part of the post.
There have been two someone’s “happy to” send me adorable hair accessories.
I’ll mention one of these generous givers in this post.
The first is Miss Evil Kitty.
[Her moniker makes my giggle and I think of The Emperor’s New Groove every. single. time.]
She hosted a contest on Instagram for a two-month subscription of her perfectly wonderful hairpins.
I was the winner–winner–ooo–la–la.
>swoon<
I love Birchbox. [Not a advertisement. Just a declaration.]
It comes monthly — trying new products without buying the entire bottle is appealing to me — the sizes are perfect for traveling — I love getting a box in the mail.
There are a plethora of choices online for monthly boxes — makeup, beauty products, snacks, art supplies, art projects, handmade products from around the world, and a whole lot more.
This one is for hairpins and she happens to be having hairpin subscription sale going on right this very moment.
[Which, by the way, would be a perfect idea for a gift for someone who loves hair accessories — or — someone who’s interested in trying something new.]
They’re beautiful. Simple. Charming. Sweet.
I’ve added them to my list of hair accessories that I adore.
What’s your favorite hair accessory? Do you wear them? Do you want to wear them, but aren’t quite sure how they’d look?
I’d love to know.
what do you think?
