Nutella Muddy Buddy Heaven

Nutella Muddy Buddy Heaven

Okay–here’s the thing. I don’t want anyone to STOP reading this blog after I say what I’m going to say.

Seriously.

It doesn’t seem like a big deal to me.  At all.

I’ve seen some wild, crazy eyes and a couple of sneers aaaand a few people have snorted…

[A bit like a little cute pony snort–not a piggy one.]

…when they’ve learned, but it’s just not that big of a deal.

[May I just insert here, that if you are reading this with an incoherent southern accent you are right on the mark.]

Here it is.

[Blah-buh-dee-blah-blah-blah.]

I don’t like chocolate.

I don’t.

But I’ll tell you what–slap some Nutella on a piece of an old, weathered pallet and I’m good for some munching.

I like Nutella.

Handsome Dude loves the stuff.

He’ll occasionally set up an experiment station right in our very own kitchen.

Nutella?–check.

Utensil for spreading Nutella?–check.

An assortment of food items collected from all corners of the kitchen: the pantry, the fridge, the bread nook?–check.

That’s when the party begins.

It used to drive me crazy.

“Don’t I feed you enough?”

“Vegetables don’t need Nutella to be tasty.”

“You really need a spoon and a spatula?”

You know–that kind of thing.

Now, it’s just mostly, “Nutella away, my Handsome Dude–I need something to blog about.”

Which brings me to this.

Remember Cathy–my extraordinarily creative friend that made this beautiful necklace?

She came back–and this time we mixed together three of her ‘just-the-right-kind-of-yum’ recipes for Muddy Buddies.  Our friend Tyler joined us for today’s adventure.  Yay!

1–Lemon Bar Muddy Buddies
2–Cinnamon Churro Muddy Buddies
3–Nutella Muddy Buddies

Just look at the tastiness.

I opted to make the Nutella Muddy Buddies because I knew Handsome Dude would want to smooch my face off if I did.

Here’s the list of ingredients.

Nutella Muddy Buddies

–9 cups Rice Chex cereal (the 12.8 oz box was a perfect 9 cups)

[If you use Corn Chex you will not self-destruct.  Truly.  I’m sitting here typing this and I used Corn Chex.]

–1 1/2 cups Nutella [I used 2/3 of a 26.5 oz container]

–2 Tbsp. butter

–2 cups powdered sugar

And a paper bag.  Not the lunch size–not the lawn size–the grocery size.  Ask your local grocer.

[By-the-way.  If you’re allergic to calories, now would be a good time to run away.]

Pour the Chex cereal into a large bowl.

Scoop the Nutella into a medium size microwavable bowl.  Add the butter.

Microwave for 30 seconds and stir.

[Resist licking the spatula if friends are in close proximity because they’ll notice.]

Pour the Nutella and butter mixture over the cereal.

Stir until evenly coated.

[Note to self:  don’t ever make this treat when anyone else is watching.  How in the world do I not just stick my face in this mix of yum and tasty and chow down?  Witnesses.]

Pour the coated cereal into the large paper bag.

Sprinkle the powdered sugar over the cereal–or just dump it on like I did.

Fold the top of the bag over a couple of times.

Shake, shake, shake that bag until the cereal is evenly coated.
Open the bag immediately–before the powdered sugar has settled–and look inside so you can see what it looks like.
Poof.
The soft cloud of powdered sugar will gently cover your face, your hair, the countertop, the other two people in the kitchen, the floor.  And if you are laughing, and ever have to stop to take a breath, it will go up your nose.
~smile~
If you remember to wait for a few moments, the cloud will settle before you open the bag–and not so much on you.
Pour the mixture onto a cookie sheet to cool.
Taste it. Taste it. Taste it.
From start to finish was less than 20 minutes.  It would certainly go more quickly if you didn’t have friends around being all friendly and fun and sociable.
I’ll post the other two recipes eventually.  They are as simple and quick to make as this one was.
Yum.
That is all I have to say.
[Mostly because I’m eating.]
 Enjoy.
