I love dresses — frilly frocks

[Just a note–something was wonky about the October 9th post.  So I re-posted it.]

I love dresses. That doesn’t mean I don’t wear pants, because I do. (Like right this very second–ta-da–I’m wearing pants.)

I just love dresses.

It isn’t often that I find a dress that’s fabulous as is. I generally know there’s something extra to be modified before I wear it. I quite enjoy the challenge, actually.(Which would, in part, explain the stacks of projects in my sewing-craft room.) And there’s something adventurous about making something unique out of something that wasn’t.

Three of the four dresses in the picture required some kind of modifying.

–The upper left dress needed length. I added three rows of ruffles to the hem. It’s a permanent solution unless I want to unpick or seam rip. I don’t.

–The blue dress was modest when I was standing up. The moment I sat down–well–the moment I sat down is part of what I worry about–length–so I added a fabulous extender underneath (one that I can wear with multiple outfits). Oh–it also needed sleeves. One word: cardigan.

–I purchased the bottom left dress with theintent of adding the black extender underneath (the dress was darling as well as a fantastic deal). And a shrug. It needed some length and some sleeves.

The only dress long enough (andwith sleeves) was the black lace one. (It needed the bow–but that’s a simple remedy.)

(Yikes! I’ve just noticed that it looks like we have four completely different shades of yellow/gold/mustard paint on the walls. False. I just don’t have any consistent photograph editing skills. Yet.)

Yikes aside…

Have I mentioned how much I love accessories? Everyone needs an accessory box. Or a drawer. Or a room. ~grin~

[Note to self: blog about a basic accessory stash. But not a moustache, thank you. If you have one of those in the building–and it’s on YOU–get rid of it. Use duct tape if necessary.

Unless you’re a guy. Do we even have any reading this blog? Hm. I did blog about rocks that one time.]

~grin~

Yesterday I posted a tutorial about how to make one kind of slip extender. Here are pictures of two more slip extenders.

Both pictures on the left are the original pieces–what they were beforethey were slip extenders. The pictures on the right are the cut-and-added-elastic-to slip extenders.

And one (of several) of my darling nieces: Annie.

Well almost one of her. Minus her eyes and feet in the top photo. And minus her torso, head, and feet in the other. ~grin~

The sundress on the bottom left was the same deal as yesterday’s sundress: the buy one for $15 or buy two for $20.

Which means I have another floral sundress to create something out of.

But not right this minute.

“Frock: a gown or dress worn by a girl or woman.”

Which means: Happy Frock-tober 9th.
