One great idea | and the winner is

One great idea. ~grin~ It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a great idea–not so long since we’ve had a winner, wonderfully enough–but it’s been at least a minute since there’s been a great idea. This post has both: One great idea and a winner. First: one great idea.

[As a preface, let me just say that not everyone will think anything needed to be modified.]

Last month I purchased an adorable jumper–it’s lightweight, covered with daisies, and very wearable. [It will definitely be included in an upcoming Six Outfits post.] The slip/lining attached to the jumper wasn’t long enough. [For moi.] Wearing another slip in addition to the one on the jumper wasn’t appealing. At all.

Here’s the jumper–inside out.

I have a neatly folded pile bag stuffed with an assortment of linings. They are a variety of thicknesses and fabrics (tulle, cotton, polyester) and come from old skirts or skirts purchased from thrift stores because they had great linings, and a few old dresses. Ready-made linings are fantastic because they’re hemmed. Hemmed. Which means I don’t hem them. [Fa-la-la-la-la—la-la. La. La.] The fabric generally used for linings is tough to sew without a pucker, a gather or a run showing up.

The lining I wanted to use was too long which took about 5 minutes to remedy.

Lay it out flat. Measure how ever many inches you want to cut off. Carefully cut. Serge the cut edge. Voila.

I heart sergers. That is all.

It was easy to overlap the two linings–as opposed to putting right sides together and sewing a seam. That would save some bulk. Bulk is not good when it comes to clothes.  Maybe when purchasing toilet paper or vast quantites of white socks–but not when you’re building or mending clothes. Generally.

The green hearts simply show where the seam of awesomeness will be.

I used a zigzag stitch to sew the two pieces together.

Ta-da.

The project from start to finish took 15 minutes.

That. is my kind of project.

Now.
